Five

I have neglected writing this post, because it's hard to even admit to myself, but our baby is five. Five! We can't even pretend she's a toddler anymore. How is this possible? I have no idea. Here's a little snapshot of the baby girl:

Favorite Things: Dinosaurs. Horses. Puzzles. Ice cream and candy. Going down the fireman's pole and down slides (a new development). Riding roller coasters. Digging in the dirt ("for fossils"). Coloring. Red Robin.

Least Favorite Things: Interference from Jonas. Being told what to do. Being asked to do something. Eating something besides peanut butter and jelly or macaroni and cheese.

Career Plans: Doctor.

Favorite Destinations: Disney World. The playground. Dinosaur world. The zoo.

Favorite Movie: The Lion King.

Scotlen cannot complain about the fun level with respect to her birthday. On her actual birthday, she came downtown to have lunch at Mama's office. We dined on pizza and cupcakes. From there, Daddy took her for a special one-on-one trip to the zoo. The zoo included a trip to the graveyard on site, an event that prompted lots of non-birthday type questions. Like, "can we dig for bones?" And, "when you die, we can get a new Daddy." That evening, we dined at, where else, Red Robin with Mimi and Hots. She received puzzles, Dinosaur Train figurines, and video games for presents.

This weekend the family descended for another anti-gift party. The general absence of gifts did not seem to be noticed. Like the organized parents we are, Kyle and I carefully chose a theme for the party. We had Mickey Mouse balloons, dinosaur plates, Star Wars tablecloth, horse napkins, and Lion King cake. A generally grand time was had by all and, as Scotlen declared this evening, "it's fun to be five."
