Scotlen's stint at Camp Grandmommy went so swimmingly that we had nothing but optimism for Jonas's turn. Grandmommy even decided to go full tilt and give Jonas the tent treatment. Day 1 went surprisingly well, including a successful nap, trip to the pool, and full night's sleep. There were big plans for Day 2, but Focker had other ideas. Rather than a trip to the museum or the playground, Focker decided a trip to the hospital would be more fun. You see, after several days of abdominal pain, it dawned on him that perhaps he should get the condition checked out. A CT scan confirmed it - grandchildrenicitis - an affliction brought on by a concentrated dose of grandchildren. Actually, it turned out to be classic appendicitis. By that evening Focker was in surgery, Grandmommy was in the waiting room, and Auntie was driving Jonas to be handed back off to us in Cookeville. So Camp Grandmommy 2011 got cut a little short for Jonas, but he didn't seem too torn up about it. We are all thankful that Focker has made a swift recovery.

There are few things stronger than a gene pool
In other news, Scotlen's first week of kindergarten has gone relatively well. Only a few hiccups. For example, we did not know for the first three days that we were supposed to send a snack. Getting the hang of the drop off and pick up system has been a little intimidating. And Scotlen one day mentioned that kindergarten was hard and she would like to go back to Ms. Kathy's. But other than that, she has seemed to have a great time. Today was a particularly big hit, as it was her first day of show-and-tell. Auntie continues her hot streak of gift giving as the object Scotlen chose to display as "My Favorite Thing" was the stuffed Hedwig Auntie bought for Scotlen at Harry Potter World. This is unconfirmed, but I'm pretty sure Auntie's success streak is starting to get under the skin of Grandmommy. I asked Scotlen on the way to school what she was going to tell her classmates about Hedwig and she made a vague reference to Hedwig's "parts for having babies." I have no idea where this came from, and I sincerely hope it did not make it into the presentation.
