PT

With Scotlen, we were all over it. We tried everything we could think of to potty train her. Starting at the age of 2, we rolled through one reward system after another, and they all failed. She was not interested in the potty at all. Finally, when we were busy taking care of Jonas just after he was born, she decided she was ready for the change. And she basically did it on her own.

With Jonas, we decided to take the opposite approach. Very zen. Very "if you build it, he will come." The zen method was also a complete failure. He too, was totally uninterested. So a couple of months after he turned three, I turned to the internet and discovered the "3 day potty training" method. $24 dollars later, I basically had a word document telling me to throw away the diapers and hover over him for as long as it took to get the message.

We began on a Saturday morning. He helped me bag up all the diapers and say goodbye. I wrangled him into some underwear, gave him constant cups of milk, and began to wait for the inevitable. After going through 4 pairs of underwear in the scope of two hours, I began to feel a little panicky. But, by late Saturday afternoon, he basically had it down. And other than a couple of accidents, he has been trained ever since. He now goes on his own. The only glitch is that he prefers to disrobe from the waist down and needs a little help getting back into his garments. So we get a lot of this around the house:
